Here in Australia it's that time of year when our summer sports come to an end and our winter sports commence. Some of these overlap and it's making view rather hard, it's my luck that the 2 games I want to watch are being played or aired at the same time. Today I have a small selection of sports that are definitely played/participated in Australia.
Golf - This one is pretty self explanatory as the rules, equipment and playing courses are all very standard world wide. This sport is more relaxed that it allows you to have a chat with your mates for a solid 4-5 hours, unless you guys play some sort of extreme golf where you run between holes.
Soccer - or 'The World Game' or Football! Here in Australia it is most commonly referred to as soccer. It's a sport that requires a ball, some grass, a goal or some cones and yourself (just don't use your arms or hands).
Rugby - is separated into 2 different codes: League and Union. Both forms are full contact sports so you are guaranteed a bruise or 3. League is the faster paced version of the game.
Hockey - I'm bound to course a fight or 2 about this one. I know in America Hockey refers to Ice Hockey but here in Australia Hockey refers to Field Hockey. I know that everyone has their own opinions about which is the true form or the most skillful for but I believe it's field hockey all the way. True Ice hockey played have to know how to skate but they also wear padding and can use both sides of their stick. Field hockey players wear the bear minimum of protection, can only use one side of their stick and play in all weather conditions.
Boxing - possibly the most brutal and stupid sports ever. Why men feel the need to beat the shit out of someone I don't understand.
Football - Again this one could cause some problems because different countries have different meanings for the term football. Sorry if I miss any off! In Australia we call the American version American Football and/or Gridiron, English Football is called Soccer and Australian Football is AFL.
What's your favourite sport to watch or play?
Until next time
